My Background
Having started my design journey only 1.5 years ago, I've quickly established myself as a product designer at Intent UX, a software design agency focused on creating user-friendly solutions. My responsibilities span ideation, wireframing, UI design, client communication, and collaboration with our UX Strategist. Despite my recent entry into the field, I've adapted quickly to ensure our users receive the most effective solutions to their software challenges.
My Challenge
My transition from software engineering to UX design presented several significant hurdles:
- Skills mismatch: During my Software Engineering degree, I realized coding wasn't aligned with my natural abilities
- Career pivot uncertainty: Changing professional directions required finding a new path that matched my strengths
- Entry-level barriers: Breaking into UX design without formal design education seemed daunting
- Job search complexity: Finding junior positions that would accept my non-traditional background was challenging
Finding My Solution
My journey to UX design began unexpectedly during my second semester when I discovered a YouTube video about prototyping interfaces before coding. "The UI/UX design field resonated with me right away, and I began learning more about it," I explain. This initial spark led me to design applications for my coding classmates during group projects.
My introduction to Uxcel came through social media. My first introduction to Uxcel started with an Instagram story containing A/B design questions. This was an excellent practice for noticing details, so I wanted to do more questions like that.
What drew me deeper into the platform was its comprehensive approach to design education. Since that moment, I have started exploring Uxcel and discovered that it's a whole platform dedicated to leveling-up designers. Skill assessments were challenging, arcade games were entertaining, and UX design courses taught me a lot about design concepts in a digestible, gamified way.
Beyond the content, the platform's visual appeal was particularly compelling. It's Uxcel's visual identity that appealed to me. I always pay close attention to the aesthetics of things...I am more likely to download an app or buy a piece of clothing if it looks amazing and all components complement each other.
Career Transformation Results
Through Uxcel's comprehensive platform, I was able to:
- Develop verified design skills: The Uxcel assessments verify the designer's skills incredibly precisely
- Build professional credentials: I believe that my high assessment scores and status as a Verified Designer helped the recruiter notice and consider me
- Access relevant job opportunities: Uxcel's job board quickly offered me positions that piqued my interest
- Secure an ideal position: I feel blessed to have stumbled upon this job posting at Uxcel's job board. I cannot think of a better UX design position for a junior designer
The position I found through Uxcel has proven to be an ideal match for my career stage. I enjoy learning from my colleagues and contributing to projects aimed at making people's lives better at my job.
Beyond Technical Skills
What makes this career transition particularly meaningful is how it aligns with my natural abilities and interests. Despite having no previous professional design experience, Uxcel's structured learning approach and verification system gave me the credibility needed to enter the field.
For other professionals looking to pivot into design careers, my journey demonstrates the power of platforms that combine skill development with practical job opportunities. By focusing on building verifiable skills and connecting with positions that match your experience level, a successful transition is achievable, even without a traditional design background.
The combination of engaging learning content, skill verification, and targeted job matching created the foundation I needed to transform my career path from software engineering to my true passion in UX design.
