My Background

After 12 years in tech companies across Berlin and London, I've built a career spanning both product and UX. My journey began as a content design intern in 2012—though back then we simply called it "editing and writing." Throughout my career, I've discovered UX and product thinking through hands-on experience, continually educating myself along the way.

As a self-described learning enthusiast who spends Friday evenings diving into new concepts, this passion has fueled my professional growth to my former role, Head of Content Design at Klarna, where I led a team supporting designers, researchers, product managers, and engineers across the company, and now Principal Content Designer at Wise.

The Challenge I Faced

As I advanced toward leadership positions, I encountered several key challenges:

  • Vocabulary gaps. Despite years of experience, I struggled to articulate design concepts precisely when collaborating with visual designers and product teams
  • Cross-functional knowledge needs. As a content designer, I needed comprehensive understanding beyond my immediate expertise
  • Leadership responsibilities. My role increasingly required mentoring designers and evangelizing UX across the organization
  • Time constraints. My packed schedule left little room for traditional, lengthy courses

Finding My Learning Solution

I discovered Uxcel in 2022 and was immediately drawn to its fast-paced approach. What made Uxcel particularly effective for me:

  1. Bite-sized, text-based content. Concise explanations let me absorb information quickly without lengthy videos
  2. Interactive quizzes. These reinforced learning and moved concepts into my active memory
  3. Skill Graph assessment. This clearly visualized my strengths and growth opportunities across the UX spectrum
  4. Diverse learning formats. Multiple ways to engage with material based on available time

Why Uxcel Stands out

Having invested in nearly every major UX learning platform available: Udemy, Coursera, Nielsen Norman Group, Interaction Design Foundation, I found Uxcel delivers unique value.

Uxcel is my favorite because it suits my style of learning. With other platforms, what you come away with is knowledge in your passive memory. With Uxcel, the quizzes and bite-sized format help you memorize things and get them into your active memory, which means you can apply them seamlessly in your day-to-day work.

Professional-grade content in accessible formats. I know Uxcel collaborates with experts. From my own knowledge with content strategy courses, I can verify what I'm reading is correct and applies to practical situations I encounter daily.

Time efficiency. I can complete a quiz in about 3 minutes and revise multiple concepts. This is dramatically different from sitting through lengthy video lectures that require scheduling dedicated learning time.

In terms of time savings, Uxcel has revolutionized my professional development by enabling:

  • Meaningful learning in 3-5 minute intervals throughout my day
  • Direct transfer of concepts to active memory
  • Rapid reinforcement through efficient quiz navigation

These efficiencies have directly translated into accelerated career advancement and broader organizational impact.

Transforming My Professional Impact

Uxcel's impact on my career trajectory has been significant. I rate it 8 out of 10 for its contribution to my professional growth in several key ways:

Developing a comprehensive UX vocabulary. One of my favorite courses was design composition. I've discussed these principles with designers but just haven't had the words to express them myself.

Evangelizing UX across the organization. What I love about Uxcel is you've got these fantastic explanations that give you the words to explain Gestalt theory to a product manager or color theory to an engineer.

Becoming a more 'full-stack' UX professional. I always think it's important for all of us in UX and product to be 'full stack' people. I need to know how all this works to be successful in my content design decisions.

Accelerating my career progression. I've progressed very quickly from individual contributor to leading content design over the past couple of years because of my ability to approach UX more holistically.

My Advice for Others

Based on my experience, here's how to get the most value from Uxcel:

  1. Start with the Pulse assessment. This tool helps figure out where your gaps are, where opportunities exist for growth, and where your strengths lie.
  2. Determine your learning focus. Decide whether to deepen your strengths or develop areas with knowledge gaps.
  3. For content designers. Start with the Figma course. We sometimes struggle to keep up with our visual design partners.
  4. Engage with multiple formats. Check out the Arcade as well. It gives you that dopamine rush and keeps you coming back.
  5. Reassess regularly. Retake the assessment to see how you've grown and developed.

In today's tech environment, especially with AI reshaping our industry, having deep knowledge across multiple UX disciplines has become a significant advantage. Platforms like Uxcel that make this knowledge accessible and engaging provide the perfect foundation for career growth and leadership success.
