My Background
I am teaching at one of the biggest technical universities in Romania, the Politehnica University of Timisoara. I’m teaching mainly at the master’s in Multimedia Technologies. My courses cover user research and user testing. Other UX/UI topics are covered by my colleagues.
My Challenge
I wanted to complement the things I am teaching to the students, because I am aware that I can’t cover everything alone, and I know that my colleagues have the same problem. We wanted to give a complete UX education to our students, and that posed a real challenge to us.
- Restricted learning time: It is hard to cover everything I need within one semester
- Lack of interactivity: Hard to teach UX design old-fashioned way
- Providing bite-sized content: depending on the context, UX is easier to grasp when the lectures are structured this way
Finding My Solution
I heard about Uxcel, and I realized that I can complement learning materials from the University with your platform. Uxcel is offering micro courses that fit perfectly into what I planned to do. During the semester, I told the students to create a Uxcel account and do the activities on the platform. The activities weren't mandatory, but many students completed them. It was cool to monitor them through my account, which is an excellent feature.
Students are very adept at learning new technologies, and they are already using AI and other interactive tools that help them study. As a modern platform, Uxcel checks all the boxes in that regard.
I also collaborate with the Digital Education Department, and implementing Uxcel at the higher level can be very beneficial for the University.
The Effect on My Career
As a teacher, I want to incorporate more materials into my lectures, but make it more modern and easier for the students. From my experience, the students are very creative and flexible. They want to study and learn interactive things that can help them in their future career, but they don’t know where to go.
When it comes to AI, we also have programs that incorporate AI tools into them. I actually show my students a lot of AI tools that they can use nowadays to help them with writing and structuring content. In one of the recent exams with my colleagues, they had to use a generative AI tool to create a multimedia mobile application, and they had to explain: why they chose a certain AI tool; what prompts did they give the tool; what did they think about it; what was their experience.
Advice to Other Professionals
AI is already reshaping the world as we know it. Instead of being afraid and fighting against it, we should embrace it. At my University, there are lots of programs incorporating AI and other modern tools. Students are using it anyway, so we should bring the best possible experience to them and help.
As a modern learning platform, Uxcel is perfect for complementing university study programs. In the hybrid future that we are approaching, it will be important to incorporate as many interactive learning tools as possible.
